CraveFX Powers the Multimedia Vision of Singapore Odyssea
CraveFX is proud to have played a key role in the creation of Singapore Odyssea, the National Museum of Singapore’s latest permanent experience. A sweeping, immersive journey through 700 years of Singapore’s history, now open to the public within the iconic Glass Rotunda.
Commissioned to lead the multimedia production and interactive design, CraveFX, a leading animation studio in Singapore, worked closely with partners, Kin Productions, GSM Project, E&E and the museum team to bring this ambitious vision to life. The result is a multi-sensory experience that reimagines how history can be told through immersive visuals, evocative soundscapes and meaningful interaction.
An Immersive Time-Travel Experience at the National Museum of Singapore
Visitors embark on a digital voyage aboard a vessel, travelling through dynamically animated environments that reflect key moments in Singapore’s evolution from ancient shores and colonial encounters to modern day cityscapes. The narrative is shaped not by text, but by atmosphere and symbolism with water serving as both metaphor and medium.
At the center of the experience is a reactive companion wristband which connects to an interactive creature inspired by Singapore’s native fauna designed not just to accompany visitors, but to subtly spark awareness of our fragile ecosystems and the deep ties between environment, identity, and memory.
CraveFX’s Role in Singapore Odyssea
From early ideation and storyboarding, to real-time graphics, character design, and experience integration, CraveFX was responsible for the multimedia creative pipeline that powers The Singapore Odyssea. The goal was to shape an emotionally resonant and visually compelling exhibit that redefines what museum storytelling can look like.

Meet Your Companion: The Heart of Singapore Odyssea
Each visitor begins their journey by receiving a magical companion wristband, an innovative wearable embedded with a digital creature inspired by Singapore’s native fauna. With nine different companions to choose from, representing Land, Sky, and Marine creatures, this interactive companion reacts to your movement, reveals insights, and unlocks content throughout the experience. The companion subtly encourages environmental awareness, reminding visitors of Singapore’s deep connection with nature and biodiversity.
The Singapore Odyssea Journey Unfolds in Four Visually Stunning Acts
1. Globe Entrance – Singapore’s Global Ties Come to Life
Visitors step onto a glowing bridge before a striking 2.4-meter LED globe. This opening segment explores Singapore’s evolving global connections through the centuries, from 11th-century Arab sea routes to modern global trade corridors. Animated visuals map out Singapore’s role as a maritime and commercial hub across shifting geopolitical landscapes.
2. Spiral Ramp – A Descent Through Time
Visitors descend a 100-meter spiral ramp, where the walls evoke sculpted rock layers each material layer symbolizing a different period in time. As they journey down, their interactive companion follows alongside responding to their movement and triggering key narrative moments. The experience traverses Singapore’s imagined future and modern growth, then moves through its turbulent periods of war, separation, and rebuilding, before uncovering stories from the colonial era, and finally reaching deep into myths and legends like Badang and the Singapore Stone. Through immersive visuals and responsive storytelling, the ramp invites visitors to reflect on the challenges, transformations, and enduring spirit that have shaped the nation.
3. Cylindrical Drum – Ripples of the Past
At the base of the ramp, visitors enter a 360 degree cylindrical projection encircled by a towering waterfall. As they step closer, the water parts, revealing animated portals into four powerful moments in Singapore’s history. The 10-meter LED floor reacts with ripples beneath their feet, transforming from ancient seas with floating coconuts to post-war puddles and cracked concrete.
4. Transition Zone – A Poetic Farewell
The journey ends with a companion release ritual, a reflective farewell where visitors let go of their wristband guides in a symbolic gesture. As their creatures fade into the projection, visitors are treated to a gentle retelling of the mythical story of Pauh Janggi and the Crab and other local legends, framed within a lush, biodiverse intertidal ecosystem.
